How to French Press Coffee

If you’ve ever wondered how to make coffee using a French press, I’d highly suggest you learn the ropes and start doing it regularly!  When it comes to taste and quality, it doesn’t get much better than a cup of fresh, French pressed coffee.

So what do you need?

Well, you need three things.

  1. A French Press
  2. Some great coffee
  3. A pot to boil water
Yeah, you need the water and a mug too, but I’m not getting picky.  Here’s what I suggest for each.

The French Press

Here are a couple different French Presses for you to choose from:

You can choose which press best suits your needs by choosing the appropriate size.  If you want to make coffee for a few people, perhaps a 32-oz press would best suit you.  If you’re the only one partaking, an 8-oz press should do the trick.

The Great Coffee

Peet's Coffee & Tea

I’m a huge fan of Peet’s Coffee.  My favorite roast is Major Dickason’s Blend.  If you’re going to be drinking this high-quality coffee, you need to be using a French Press to brew it.  Plain and simple.

A Pot to Boil the Water

Yeah, I’m not going to cover this one.  You should be able to figure it out on your own.

Enjoy the Coffee!

A big part of living The Rich Life is enjoying the little things.  So don’t settle for bland drip coffee – go crazy, and press it every time.  Why live a sub-par life in any way?  Making the little details count will make everything else a walk in the park, when it comes to enjoying life.

You have success with the  fine ground?  I’d always heard coarse ground for a french press.

Also as far as amortizing the coffee production: those drip machines *break* like no other.  I can’t imagine what – short of actually breaking the carafe would ruin my French press. (Also a Bodum.  The Chambord.  I got it on sale).

My old coworker not only ground her own beans, she had a home roaster.  Swore it was fresher, tastier and more economical.  That said, I’ll have to try the Peet’s – there’s a physical Peet’s location in my neighborhood.

Maybe someday I’ll show you my home vanilla latte set up : )

I’ve heard the same about coarse ground, but I’ve yet to try it. I’m actually ordering some right now. Peet’s refers to it as “Press Pot/Percolator” blend.

Nice, on the sale price for the Chambord! I’d have to agree that the more work that goes into the coffee, the better the experience is.

I got my order of coarse ground in, and it comes out about 50% better than the fine ground.  Thanks for the catch!
