To say that our lifestyle shift into a tiny house is going smoothly would be a big fat lie. We went to a Tumbleweed Tiny House workshop in January with Jay Shafer. It was fantastic, and we tried to decide how we would build our tiny house.
In the end, we decided to have someone else build it. After sending off our $7,300 deposit, we heard nothing back from the builder. To make a long story short, we still haven’t seen any proof that construction on our house was ever started, and we haven’t gotten our money back (and believe me, I have taken every avenue of asking for it back).
So with that experience, Jessica and I no longer trust anyone. It hurts losing seven grand, but we’re not letting that stop us. We’re taking matters into our own hands, and we’re now going to build our own tiny house. I ordered the trailer yesterday, and I’ll be picking it up on Saturaday (fingers crossed).
After being scammed, we’re definitely taking a different approach to doing business with people. Contracts reviewed and agreed upon before any exchange of money takes place. Hopefully most of the materials necessary can be bought from businesses that don’t involve shady trust, like Home Depot or Lowes.
Through all of the shite we’ve dealt with thus far, we aren’t giving up. We are building our tiny house, and it’s going to be the most amazing tiny house you’ve ever seen.
